Creative Embroidery: Stitch, Embellish & Personalize

Creative Embroidery: Stitch, Embellish & Personalize

A hands-on embroidery workshop exploring stitch, embellishment and personal expression through clothing and textiles

Participants begin by learning and practicing a selection of basic hand-embroidery stitches on felt, creating their own colorful stitch sampler. From there, they explore ways to use those stitches creatively to embellish, personalize or transform clothing and accessories.

Rather than following a prescribed embroidery pattern, participants are encouraged to experiment with line, color, texture, lettering and their own ideas. A simple stitch can become a border, a drawing, a monogram, a word, a decorative repair or the beginning of an entirely new design.

No previous embroidery experience is necessary.

    What participants learn:

    • Basic hand-embroidery stitches and how they can be varied
    • Threading, knotting and working comfortably with needle and thread
    • Using stitch as line, pattern and texture
    • Adding words, initials and personal imagery to clothing
    • Creative approaches to embellishing and renewing existing garments
    • How handwork can turn an ordinary piece of clothing into something individual

Participants leave with a stitch sampler they can continue using as a reference, along with the skills and confidence to begin embellishing their own clothing and textiles.
